Polish customs need to be mentioned so you are not suprized or embaressed.
Shaking Hands
It is very Polish to shake hands when you introduce yourself, say hello, say good bye. It is very obvious for Americans, but it is not for every European or Asian, that is why it needs to be mentioned.
Polish meal schedule
Breakfast - usually a big one is eaten early in the morning. Scrambled Eggs are very popular in Poland. We also love cooked sausages. We Poles drink tea all day long and together with our meals.
The second breakfast - yes we have 2 breakfasts. Actually it is a sort of lunch. It is to be served about 11 a.m. We have some tosts, sandwiches or anything light then.
Dinner is served between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Polish dinner consists usually of 2 meals. 1 is soup. Tomato soup and bullion are the most popular. The 2nd meal is quite normal: meat, potatos, vegies. Sometimes we have some dessert afterwards, providing we have some room for it:). I hope you noticed we do not have any starters.
Supper is to be served between 7 and 9 p.m. Usually we have some sandwiches and tea. However we are Poles and we invented the sausages, at least we claim we did, we have baked or grilled ones for our supper.
Many companies introduced lunch break, so many Poles have lunch instead of our second breakfast.
Poles always complain...
You are surprized... OK, I am about to explain this delicate issue. Poles always complain about their jobs, wifes, husbends, money, goverment, especially goverment, parliament and president. We are never happy. When you see any Pole and ask him how he is doing you may hear that business is bad, his wife does not like him and definitely cheats on him, his kids are morons, his neighbors are much richer than him, etc. You will never hear an answer Fine
. Why is that? I do not know, we are just this way.
Hand kissing
Polish men kiss women's hands when introduce themselves. They also do it when they hello
during some chic parties. Modern Poles find it stupid, modern Polish women do not like it either, it is simply not higienic. Imagine that some woman's hand can be kissed 30 times by many strangers. Yuck. You are a foreinger, so skip this Polish custom. Just shake hand. If you are a woman then you are in trouble, because many men can start kissing your hand. Try shaking instead. Anyway, it willnot happen to you people too often. However you need to know it and you willnot be surprized or embaressed.
